DESCRIPTION:
The Juvenile Court Counselor ensures a therapeutic team approach in the care and treatment of Court involved youth and families and serves as a liaison among Juvenile Probation and Juvenile Detention. The Juvenile Court Counselor will assist youth in identifying and seeking treatment for underlying mental and physical health conditions that perpetuate delinquent behavior with a focus on progress and recovery. The Juvenile Court Counselor will also provide mental health or behavioral assistance in an individual, group and family dynamic in a Detention or outpatient setting in the community.
 
The individual in this role will contribute as an active member of an interdisciplinary team working to provide mental health support to youth and families with the hope of creating compelling and long-lasting change. The Juvenile Court Counselor will confer with the staff of various disciplines of ongoing treatment of youth in the community setting as well as detained youth. Including engaging with youth by listening, offering suggestions, and helping youth with perception, self-realization, and self-management in accordance with youth's objectives and treatment plan goals.

Pinal County Juvenile Court services employs excellent professional staff, including experienced Clinical Supervisors who can provide supervision toward independent licensure for counselors or social workers.
 
JOB SUMMARY
The Juvenile Court Counselor is a part of a dynamic team within an integrated model of care dedicated to providing adolescents with support and resources that will inspire effective long-lasting change. We approach adolescent mental health concerns through a multidisciplinary model that facilitates ongoing communication between members of the care team and provides greater continuity of care.
 
 This is a fast-paced clinical work environment that provides: solution-focused counseling, skills-based counseling, substance use counseling, Dialectical behavioral therapy, and crisis intervention. Successful candidates enjoy effecting change in others and working both autonomously as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
 
Clinical Supervision for independent licensure is available.
As a professional position in the Superior Court in Pinal County, Juvenile Court Services, this position requires appropriate state counselor licensing with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners
 
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, and/or Social Work. Provisional licensure with Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners within 60 days of entering on duty, or proof that efforts are already underway to secure proper licensing.
  • Arizona LPC, LMFT, or LCSW required within two (2) years of hire (supervision will be provided).

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:       
  • Conducts assessments and evaluations of juveniles and their families involved in the Juvenile Court System
  • Provides individual, family, and group counseling to at-risk youth
  • Formulates treatment plans and evaluates outcomes
  • Participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and Child Family Team meetings 
  • Conducts parenting skills classes
  • Conducts therapy on an individual and group basis
  • Consults with staff and participates in the development and monitoring of individual behavior plans
  • Participates in crisis intervention
  • Provides consultation, education, and training to staff and other groups, including parents and other community members
  • Researches and implements Best Practice treatment modalities
  • Coordinates services with other agencies
  • Maintains written records
  • Prepares and provides educational and informational materials for community distribution
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information
  • Performs other related duties as required


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  1. Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) or,
  2. Licensed Professional Counselor or,
  3. Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) or,
  4. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or, 
  5. Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) or,
  6. Licensed Associate Psychologist
 
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire
 
Additional Requirements:
  • CPR certification required within 90 days of hire; provided by the County
  • May be subject to irregular work hours/schedules
  • Must submit to fingerprint and background examinations
  • Maintain required licenses and certifications
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of experience providing direct therapy to youth ages 8-17
  • Independent level of licensure through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners

 Under the supervision of an independently licensed Clinician:
 
  • Conduct an initial and ongoing assessment of the need for substance use treatment and other behavioral health needs
  • Conduct a professional level assessment to determine the appropriate treatment level and facilitate placement in treatment
  • Coordinate placement into community-based treatment agencies
  • Attend court staffing of cases and hearings
  • Conduct crisis intervention assessments in a prompt manner as needed
  • Document all pertinent case information in the client file and electronic record per policy
  • Produce informative, concise notes consistently documenting client interactions and recommendations for treatment level of care
  • Access and enter information into the computer system for distinct types of correspondence, records, and reports
  • Provide verbal and written communications to probation officers regarding the assessment and any pertinent treatment referrals
  • Interact with the public, employees, and other governmental agencies and respond appropriately to inquiries
  • Participate in special projects as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to handwrite or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both inside the confinement of a correctional facility, office setting, and in client homes. May be using a video conferencing platform. May be driving to locations throughout Pinal County in a County owned vehicle.

Salary : $49,647 - $76,953
