Position Summary
The Medical Records Clerk assembles and maintains electronic medical records and assures the confidentiality of patient records in matters pertaining to the disclosure of patient treatment and medical diagnosis. This incumbent files and retrieves medical records, and corresponds with doctors, nursing personnel, and other appropriate individuals in regards to EMR (Electronic Medical Records).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Obtains physicians’ schedules by use of the in-house computer, retrieves and sorts records, and assembles records into proper chart order, places record into the appropriate area for distribution, and distributes accordingly.
- Files all patient records electronically daily, in a timely and accurate manner, making certain they are accessible for future use. Sorts and files patient documents that are forwarded to the Medical Records Department either by paper or electronically.
- Accesses computer system or other information available to locate the correct medical record number or other research as needed.
- Assists in answering telephones for medical record requests from physicians, nursing personnel, secretaries, and/or other appropriate personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education (Including Licenses and Certifications): High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Prior medical records and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience is preferred.
Day Shift, Monday - Friday
40 hours per week
