MEP Project Engineer
New York / New Jersey | Regional Travel Required
We’re working with a well-established MEP contractor / engineering & construction firm that’s expanding its project delivery team across New York and New Jersey.
They’re looking to bring on an MEP Project Engineer to support complex building projects from pre-construction through close-out, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors in the field.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants hands-on project exposure, real ownership, and the ability to grow into a Project Manager role.
The Role
The MEP Project Engineer will support the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes on active construction projects.
You’ll act as the technical and administrative backbone of the project team — ensuring drawings, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and site coordination stay aligned from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Support delivery of MEP scopes across commercial and institutional construction projects
- Review and track:
- Submittals and shop drawings
- RFIs and design clarifications
- Change orders and field directives
- Coordinate with:
- Project Managers and Superintendents
- MEP subcontractors and vendors
- Design teams and consultants
- Assist with procurement of major MEP equipment
- Provide field engineering support, site walks, and issue resolution
- Support commissioning, testing, and close-out documentation
- Help maintain project schedules, logs, and cost tracking
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 2–6 years of experience supporting MEP construction projects
- Experience working with:
- HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection trades
- Submittals, RFIs, and construction documentation
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field coordination
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites across NY/NJ
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with healthcare, life sciences, data centers, higher education, or commercial high-rise
- Exposure to commissioning and turnover processes
- Previous experience with an MEP contractor or GC
- Proficiency with tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, or Primavera
