Med/Surg RN Job Details – Charlotte, NC

• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (travel nursing contract)
• Location: Charlotte, NC 28204 (North Carolina healthcare jobs)
• Unit: 4A Pulmonary (Medical/Surgical unit)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (potential extension available)
• Start Date: August 25, 2025
• End Date: November 24, 2025
• Patient Ratios: 5:1 (may flex to 6:1 as needed)
• Weekend Requirement: 3 weekends (6 shifts) every 6 weeks
• Floating: Required within the service line as needed
• Charting System: Epic EMR
• Scrubs: Navy blue and white (any combination)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1660 - $1700
  
  

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience in a hospital setting
• Active North Carolina or Compact RN license (must be valid by start date)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification – American Heart Association preferred
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficient in cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and non-invasive airway support (CPAP/BiPAP)
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
• Ability to float to similar medical-surgical units as needed
• First-time travel nurses are encouraged to apply!
  
  

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult patients with pulmonary and general medical conditions
• Manage patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, COPD, asthma, and those requiring oxygen therapy (up to BiPAP/CPAP; no ventilator management required)
• Interpret and respond to cardiac dysrhythmias
• Document patient care using Epic electronic medical records (EMR)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Float to other medical-surgical units within the service line as needed based on census and skill set
• Follow hospital policies, infection control, and safety protocols
• Participate in self-scheduling and fulfill required weekend shifts
