Primary Function:
Perform NDT to verify conformance to specified customer specifications and code requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret drawings and other documents.
  • Verify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler metals used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materials.
  • Verify that the welding equipment to be used for the work is appropriate for the use with the welding procedure and has the capability to meet the applicable requirements of the welding procedure.
  • Verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that the welding performed is performed in conformance to the applicable procedure.
  • Witness performance and testing of procedure qualification tests or supervise these activities when performed by outside agencies.
  • Verify documentation of procedure qualification test results.
  • Verify that welders, welding operators, and tack welders have been qualified in conformance to the applicable standards, and that they’re qualified to use the welding procedures specified for the work.
  • Witness testing of the welder test assemblies and/or welding operator qualification test assemblies or supervise these activities when performed by outside agencies.
  • Verify documentation of performance qualification test results.
  • Provide notification when evidence the welder's or welding operator's work does not conform to the requirements of the applicable standard.
  • Provide notification when the welder's or welding operator's qualification is not current.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to meet business plan objectives.
  • Inspects materials and products for conformance to specifications using fixed or preset measuring instruments.
  • Ensures materials and products are in accordance with established tolerance levels for quality and performance.
  • Perform visual inspection of welded item for conformance to American Welding Society and American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); knowledge in an occupational function that has a direct relationship to welded assemblies fabricated to national or international standards. Knowledge of dimensional inspectional a plus.
  • Previous certification to the American Society of Nondestructive Testing, Visual Testing, Level II and additional nondestructive certification a plus.

Additional skills
Qualifications in accordance with and familiarity and experience with AISC 360 requirements for quality control of welding and bolting inspection

AWS CWI preferred, but not mandatory.

Knowledge with SMAW, SAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW welding processes.

Knowledge with one or more of the following NDT methods: VT, UT, RT, MT, and PT testing
processes.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $45.00 per hour
