What are the responsibilities and job description for the Detention Specialist position at Prince William County Government?
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the security and welfare of the juveniles in your care; organizing and supervising recreational, educational and life skills programs; conducting group activities on topics such as problem solving, anger management and decision making; responding to disorderly youth and, when necessary; facilitating video conferencing for court hearings. To be successful you will need experience working with at-risk youth, preferably in a secure facility; ability to work independently and make decisions based on established policy and procedure; commitment to modeling positive decision-making skills and guiding youth to making better choices; ability to perform physical restraints when necessary, using the “Handle with Care” techniques; and ability to utilize basic monitoring equipment such as video cameras and radios. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) speakers are encouraged to apply.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 1 year of at-risk youth, law enforcement or security related experience.
PREFERENCES:
- Experience working with at-risk youth;
- Experience working in law enforcement or security;
- Experience teaching life skills, problem solving, anger management and decision-making;
- Experience using physical restraint techniques such as "Handle with Care."
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) speaker
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Various 12-hour shifts: ?Day 7 am-7 pm?or?Night 7 pm-7 am
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
In accordance with Department of Juvenile Justice regulations, the selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and background checks prior to receiving a final offer. All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency human services work in the event of an emergency disaster. Must have a valid driver's license.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $23.25 - $34.19 Hourly
