Punahou School is actively recruiting a Full Time Temporary Science Faculty Member starting in the 2025-2026 School Year. The faculty member will have the ability to teach biology and environmental science. Position Details:
- Work Year: 9 Months
- School Year: 2025-2026
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
- Faculty Salary Range*: $59,081 - $119,454 - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience in teaching high-school aged students in the particular subject area and preferably one year of experience in scientific work such as working in a laboratory or in the field.
- Appropriate subject area knowledge as follows:
- Science: Knowledge of how science works, including the rules of evidence in science, how scientific knowledge is generated, how scientific investigations are designed and performed, and how argumentation in science is conducted. How mathematics is applied in the sciences.
- Biology/Environmental Science: Knowledge of molecular and cell biology, ecology, biodiversity and evolutionary principles, as well as the concepts of environmental science: : Earth systems, pollution, energy resources and consumption, global change and sustainability. Experience teaching one or both of these subjects is preferred.
- Ability to be flexible with teaching other courses pertaining to main subject area(s).
- Experience working with a variety of formative, formal and informal student assessment tools.
- Experience working with a wide range of student abilities and learning styles.
- Experience developing, conducting and evaluating open ended laboratory investigations.
- Strong knowledge of principles and methods for high school science curriculum and curriculum design, teaching and instruction.
- Familiarity with computers (Apple) and their use in science instruction to enhance student learning.
- Working knowledge of word processing and presentation software, learning management systems, data collection software, graphing software, and the use of probes and sensors to collect data.
- Ability to appropriately and clearly model and teach mathematical calculations to understand, investigate, and model chemical and biological systems.
