We offer behavioral healthcare services – psychiatry, addiction recovery, mental disorder treatment, etc. – that allow clients at all stages of recovery or rehabilitation to reclaim health and well-being.

Summary: The Family Mentor uses their own lived experience to support families involved with the Department of Social Services (DSS). In partnership with DSS and Pyramid Healthcare, the Family Mentor provides guidance, advocacy, and resource support to help families navigate services, meet goals, and stay engaged in the recovery or reunification process.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Serve as a peer support advocate using personal lived experience to connect with and motivate families involved in DSS services.
  • Provide consistent outreach, mentorship, and encouragement to families as they navigate treatment and case plan requirements.
  • Follow all guidelines and expectations set forth by the local Department of Social Services (DSS) and Pyramid Healthcare.
  • Maintain regular communication with referral sources, including DSS caseworkers and treatment providers, as directed.
  • Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team, offering insights from a family-centered perspective.
  • Prepare and conduct progress or concurrent reviews to referral sources as assigned.
  • Document all client and collateral contacts in the medical record or electronic system accurately and timely.
  • Participate in internal peer record reviews to ensure documentation quality and compliance.
  • Transport clients to and from community-based services and appointments, as appropriate and approved.
  • Must exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality with regard to all company information.
  • Completion of all required trainings as designated by the company and accreditation/licensing entities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensure, & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have personal lived experience as a parent, caregiver, or family member who has been involved with the Department of Social Services (DSS) or child welfare system.
  • Experience navigating recovery, reunification, or support services preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation as required.

  • Personal lived experience with the child welfare system, behavioral health system, or family reunification process (required).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and build trust with diverse families.
  • Ability to model and promote recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practices.
  • Understanding of the challenges families face when involved with DSS and community-based systems.
  • Basic understanding of documentation standards and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in line with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, supports, and services.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities of families and partners.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to transport clients, if needed.

Physical Demands Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs, stand, walk, stoop, twist, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must seldom lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet & indoors. This position will require local travel. This position will be scheduled based on operational need & will be required to provide own transportation.
