What are the responsibilities and job description for the Remote Sensing Technician position at Quantum Spatial INC?

Description 

The Remote Sensing Technician acquires airborne data using LiDAR, thermal infrared and digital multi-spectral imagery, and also works on the ground in a field survey capacity. The Remote Sensing Technician will also work closely with pilots while flying terrain and monitoring acquisition computers. After acquisition, ship gathered data must be collected and downloaded daily. This position reports to the Acquisition management team based out of Oregon (Portland or Corvallis). Employees may live wherever they choose, as long as they are proximate to a mid-tier airport from which to travel. This position is included in the company’s hearing conservation program.

 Responsibilities 

· Acquire airborne data using LiDAR, thermal infrared and digital multi-spectral imagery.  

· Work closely with pilots while flying terrain and monitoring acquisition computers  

· Collect, download, and ship gathered data daily after acquisition  

· Extensive travel by automobile and aircraft  

· Work on rotation consisting of 16 days on, followed by 12 days off  

· Ensure safe and secure use of company equipment and instrumentation  

· Troubleshoot instrumentation  

· Perform considerate and efficient intra-team assignments  

· Complete necessary field logs and data transfer duties  

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

· Interest in GIS and remote sensing  

· Understanding of geospatial concepts  

· Understanding of GPS survey methods  

· Effective technical description (communication and documentation) of instrument and/or mission
 
failures  

· Computer proficiency  

· Decision making and problem-solving abilities  

· Comfortable flying in small aircraft over diverse topography  

 Minimum Qualifications 

· A valid driver's license

· Current CPR and basic First Aid  

· 6 months field experience 

· Ability to lift 50 pounds  

 Preferred Qualifications 

· 4-year degree from a physical/ biological/environmental science, engineering program or related
 
field
