The Medical Technologist will perform and evaluate various tests to obtain data for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

On an average day, you will: 

• Conduct chemical analysis of blood
• Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in quantitative analysis
• Establish and monitor quality assurance programs and activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
• Perform proficiency testing
• Assist the lab manager with various duties
• Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Prepare necessary reagents for testing
• Provide technical information about test results to physicians
• Respond appropriately to results with the status of STAT, call results, patient waiting, or timed specimens.
• Ensure an adequate level of supplies for testing.
• Notifies nursing unit and/or physician of critical lab values and maintains records of notifications
• Meets current documentation standards and policies.
• Interact professionally with the Laboratory Manager, laboratory personnel, and other clinical personnel

To qualify for this job you must have: 

• Bachelor's or associates degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution allows an individual to perform high-complexity testing.
• At least one year of experience in clinical laboratory testing to include routine chemistry, hematology, and immunoassays
• ASCP Certification

• Medical terminology.
• Laboratory testing specifically in hematology, chemistry, and immunoassay
• Laboratory regulations, policies, and functions.
• Thorough knowledge of all the equipment and processes used in the laboratory
• Analysis and problem-solving.
• Maintain accurate records
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train staff.
• Maintains equipment, supplies, and materials needed for laboratory testing
• Infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
• Understanding and following written and oral medical orders.
• Time management, problem solving, multitasking, organizing, and prioritizing.
• Completing work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
• Exhibiting a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.
• Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
• HIPAA standards. 

Physical requirements and work environment:

• Requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, and stooping on a daily basis.
• Frequent standing and walking required for extended periods of time.
• Consistent use of PPE due to handling of potentially infectious materials.
• Fine motor skills.
• Visual acuity and normal color perception.
• Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
