Raritan Valley Community College's Arts & Design department has an anticipated opening for a Part-Time Photography/Printmaking Studio Lab Technician.
Essential Duties:
Assist fulltime faculty lead in overseeing the operation and maintenance of Photography and Printmaking facilities (darkrooms, print shop, lighting studio, processing labs) ensuring a safe, clean, and orderly working environment is maintained; train and provide work direction to student assistants.
Manage photo and printmaking processing chemicals as well as inks in the photography and printmaking labs. Maintain safety: ensure that storage containers are labeled according to OHSA regulations and ensure that SDS documents are filed in the appropriate location. See to proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Maintain darkroom, studio and print shop equipment by regular inspection, preventive maintenance and repair.
Assist faculty, students, and staff in the proper use of facilities, equipment, materials, and supplies common to Photography and Printmaking facilities, ensuring that safety and security procedures are appropriately observed. Assist with demonstrations in class and lab as needed.
When needed, greet visitors, conduct tours, and answer questions about Photography and Printmaking courses and related events.
Work with supervisor to create purchase orders; receive printmaking and photography materials from outside suppliers; inventory and store supplies and equipment. Keep accurate records of supplies used. Assist with coordinating instructional supplies and tools issued to students.
Job Requirements:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: satisfactory completion of 15 semester units of courses related to analog photography and printmaking and/or two years of successful work experience in a photography or printmaking environment in an academic or industry setting. Experience with a Learning Management System (RVCC currently uses Canvas.)
Knowledge of contemporary and traditional photography and printmaking processes, materials, uses, and characteristics.
Proficient in relevant digital technology: Adobe Suite for image manipulation, enhancement, creation, and organization.
Knowledge of digital image file formats, resolution, and production
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work cooperatively with others, having a student-centered orientation and ability to serve a diverse population.
Familiarity with instructional methods and techniques associated with photography and printmaking, including relevant safety and security regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a college or university Photo or Print studio is desirable.
Additional Information:
Work Schedule: Approximately 20-24.5 hours per week during the academic year.
Physical Requirements:
Will occasionally require some physical exertion, stamina, and flexibility.
Lifting of objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100lbs with assistance.
May be exposed to a variety of chemicals and machinery.
Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to
utilize safety vision devices and equipment.
