What You Can Expect Working in the Dispatcher Position
The Dispatcher is responsible for ensuring that company owned/leased delivery vehicles are properly assigned, routed and tracked. Working with Service lot representatives, the dispatcher will coordinate required activity, and provide an understanding of priority based on customer demand. A dispatcher must remain flexible with daily scheduling, and work with team members to ensure customer satisfaction through alternate planning. This position drives efficiency and productivity by defining customer needs and coordinating daily activities with lot personnel to ensure timely delivery. The dispatch position will be responsible for daily interactions with customers and continuous coordination with external carriers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates schedules of outbound, inbound and relocations.
- Establishes service or delivery routes.
- Dispatches and communicates with drivers.
- Coordinates communications for transportation department from internal and external customers including dealerships, customers, transport brokers, vendors, and manufacturers.
- Communicates with logistics on accurate inventory information.
- Prepares bills of lading and secures permits.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3 years of transportation dispatch experience.
- 3 years in a customer service experience.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and accurate data input skills.
- Able to read maps.
- Knowledge of state regulations for over-sized loads.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workloads.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience with DOT, IFTA and IRP record-keeping/compliance including trip logs, fuel receipts, vehicle repair and maintenance requirements.
