A Furniture Delivery Employee plays a vital role in ensuring that customers receive their products quickly, safely, and in excellent condition. The Furniture Delivery Employee is responsible for loading, transporting, and unloading furniture and related items to residential and commercial locations while adhering to all safety and company protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Loading and Unloading: Safely load furniture and home goods onto delivery vehicles, making sure that items are properly secured to prevent damage during transport. Upon arrival, carefully unload items and transport them to designated locations inside the customer’s home or business.
- Delivery and Transportation: Operate company vehicles, including trucks or vans, to deliver furniture on schedule. Navigate routes efficiently, using GPS and route maps to ensure timely and damage-free deliveries.
- Assembly and Installation: Assemble furniture as needed at the delivery location, which may include bed frames, tables, sofas, or storage units. Follow manufacturer instructions and company protocols to ensure safe and correct assembly.
- Customer Service: Greet customers with professionalism and courtesy. Communicate delivery times, answer questions about products or services, and resolve issues or concerns promptly and effectively.
- Inspection and Quality Control: Inspect items prior to delivery to ensure they are free from defects or damage. Report any discrepancies or damages to management immediately.
- Documentation: Obtain customer signatures upon delivery, maintain accurate records of deliveries, and complete any required paperwork such as delivery logs, inventory checklists, or damage reports.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Keep vehicles clean and report any issues or required maintenance to the supervisor.
- Teamwork: Work cooperatively with other delivery team members, warehouse staff, and management to ensure efficient operations and customer satisfaction.
- Compliance: Follow all company policies, safety guidelines, and legal driving requirements. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
Qualifications
Lifting and Physical Requirements
- Lifting: Regularly required to lift and move furniture and related items weighing up to 100 pounds (45 kilograms) independently, and heavier loads with assistance or equipment such as dollies, hand trucks, or lift gates.
- Carrying: Transport items up and down stairs, through doorways, and into tight spaces. May be required to carry heavy or bulky objects over uneven surfaces or for extended distances.
- Bending and Stooping: Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach while loading, unloading, and assembling furniture.
- Standing and Walking: Remain on feet for extended periods, sometimes several hours at a stretch.
- Climbing: May need to climb stairs, ramps, or truck steps repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate lifting equipment, such as dollies, carts, pallet jacks, and, for some deliveries, mechanical lifts.
- Weather Exposure: Work is often performed outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions such as rain, heat, or cold.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required (for driving positions).
- Experience in furniture delivery, moving, or a related field is an asset but not required; on-the-job training provided.
