Job Overview: Ensure the effective, timely, and nutritious service of meals in reStart’s kitchen which includes supervising, coaching, and scheduling kitchen staff; monitoring the work flow of staff; ensuring kitchen facility and staff are in full compliance with KCMO Health Department Food Service standards at all times; managing food deliveries; managing Harvesters and other food provider relationships; ensuring kitchen volunteers have a positive experience; and ensuring meal planning and preparation are done with a focus on serving nutritious and balanced meals that nourish our clients and enable reStart to stay in full compliance with all shelter contracts.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Models positive and healthy relationship building by treating all participants, staff and volunteers equitably with caring, kindness, respect, safety and dignity
- Follows all policies, procedures, code of conduct and attendance rules of the organization
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all information and adheres to the policies in the use of computer technology and all other devices
- Supervise employees in assigned duties
- Assist in hiring and training of new staff
- Ensure kitchen is properly staffed and that staff with appropriate skills are present in the kitchen. Manage kitchen work flow. Staff must be in kitchen area at all times during shift unless taking an authorized break from work.
- Train staff to operate standard cooking equipment such as mixer, toasters, tilt skillet, oven and stove.
- Develop, implement and monitor an effective cleaning schedule that ensures kitchen and kitchen equipment including floors, walls, tables, chairs, trays, etc. are kept clean at all times.
- Ensure kitchen maintains sanitation health and safety standard in work areas.
- Work with staff to prepare weekly menu and cook a variety of food for 50-200 people.
- Ensure adequate and nutritious snacks are continuously provided on the 4th and 5th floors for HCHV clients.
- Ensure staff provide food and beverage for internal meetings.
- Assist with preparing and serving meals.
- Work with the Health Department when inspections are done.
- Work with Harvesters to complete monthly reports and yearly inspection.
- Order supplies as needed.
- Handle on- call issues and scheduling conflicts.
- Work collaboratively with Volunteer Engagement Manager to provide a well-planned, exceptional experience for volunteers/potential donors.
- Train staff to interact properly with outside volunteer groups and others. Ensure volunteer groups are properly trained and supervised by kitchen staff and have a positive experience.
- Coordinate all food donations and conduct outreach to potential donors related to food service (restaurants, partner agencies, funders, etc.)
- Work with case managers for reStart programs housed outside of shelter to ensure participants in their programs have access to food and resources to ensure their nutritional needs are met.
- Work with development staff to help plan and implement special events and fundraisers.
- Work with development staff to arrange food and catering for various reStart development activities/ events.
- Work with and properly supervise Community Service Workers in the kitchen area as needed.
- Evaluate the performance of employee and provide feedback
- Ensure that associates follow reStart policies and procedures
- Update and train staff on security, safety and emergency procedures for reStart
- Handling emergencies as they aris

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required
- A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience required.
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen and cooking large amounts of food regularly required.
- Food Manager license required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a culturally and socioeconomically diverse population of participants, service providers and staff

- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Hours needed:
- Can work a variety of hours, depending on needs of the team and/or agency, Mon- Friday including weekends for coverage
