What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Technician position at Rice Lake Weighing Systems?
BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for operation including programming of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and the Optical Comparator. Performs Quality Department incoming inspection of purchased material and services through the use of department inspection equipment and established inspection sampling plans. Maintains monitoring and tracking listing of all company and employee owned gages. Monitors gauge usage and ensures calibration identification labels are present and accurate for each gauge under quality system control. Maintain NCP process.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR TASKS (May include any and/or all of the following)
Responsible for recall and calibration of company as well as employee owned gauges.
Monitor and maintain the operation of the NCP process. This is accomplished through review of rejected items, data collection and entry, and the control and tracking of material and documentation throughout the NCP process. Additional responsibilities include coordination of material disposition between purchasing, scheduling, product management, and the material suppliers.
Enters soft routings when material is to be repaired or reworked in the plant.
Performs final inspection and verification of custom and special order machined parts.
Review gauge usage to determine calibration frequency.
Operates, various quality inspection equipment to assure specifications are maintained for both purchased and manufactured products.
Updates inspection instructions in the M2K as necessary.
Perform first article inspections on prototype parts/sample parts received from vendors and complete a report of measurement findings. Ensures that products are produced to specifications and the customer quality expectations are met.
Prepare gauges prior to job set-ups and assist the set-up person with the selection of gauges pertaining to in-process production inspection.
Purchases new and replacement gauges as required.
Participates in internal ISO Audits..
Assists the quality engineer, when assigned, in the new part number process by setting up incoming inspection criteria to assure quality parts are received.

QUALIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES
Education and Experience
Associates Degree in Quality Engineering or Equivalent..
Three (3) years’ quality experience.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent blueprints reading skills.
Good working knowledge of geometric tolerancing.
Strong knowledge in calibration of measuring and test equipment.
Good working knowledge of statistics i.e. interpretation of sample plans, PC curves confidence limits and S.P.C.
Familiarity with Calibration and Inspection requirements
Must be detail oriented.
CMM operation and programming.
Certificates, licenses, training, or other job-related requirements
ASQ Certified Quality Technician preferred.
