Job Description
The Well Management Engineer – Drillouts is responsible for planning, designing, and supporting post-completion wellwork operations, with a primary focus on drillouts and initial completions. This role provides engineering execution support to ensure operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The position requires close collaboration with production, development, completion, and operations teams, as well as coordination with contractors and service providers. The role is based on-site in Midland, Texas and operates in a fast-paced, field-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and provide engineering execution support for post-completion wellwork operations, including drillouts and initial completions
- Coordinate with Production Engineering to develop cost estimates and scopes of work for initial completion installations
- Interface with Development and Completion Engineering teams to understand well designs, risks, and operational challenges on a well-by-well basis
- Develop operational procedures and provide technical input related to drillout operations and artificial lift systems
- Collaborate with scheduling and operations teams to support rig scheduling, execution readiness, and troubleshooting
- Coordinate with contractors and equipment suppliers to ensure cost control, equipment availability, and operational readiness
- Monitor daily operational progress, track costs, and recommend adjustments to improve efficiency and reduce costs
- Travel to field locations as needed to oversee wellwork operations and support execution
- Support completion spend forecasting and budget preparation activities
- Track, analyze, and continuously improve drillout execution performance and efficiency
- Manage contractor performance and ensure adherence to operational expectations
- Maintain, steward, and analyze well data to ensure accuracy and data quality within operational systems
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum of 5 years of oil and gas industry experience
- At least 3 years of direct wellwork experience; Permian Basin experience preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to integrate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment
- Willingness to travel to well locations as required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience using Wellview or similar well data management systems
- Experience with drillout operations in unconventional developments
- Exposure to data visualization and analytics tools such as Spotfire, Power BI, or similar platforms
