We are looking for an Underground Geotechnical Technician to support the development of underground mining at Bingham Canyon. The primary responsibilities for this position are ground support quality assurance and quality control. This role will be a field-based position with limited office work. This is a technical role; however, the work may be physically demanding and much of your time spent will be underground.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:
- Tracking sampling compliance and completing strength testing for shotcrete and cemented rock fill
- Completing rock-bolt pull testing
- Complete and oversee installation of geotechnical monitoring equipment
- Maintaining QAQC data in various systems and issuing monthly reports
- Support geotechnical engineers in various underground tasks, such as geotechnical inspections and monitoring
- Other duties as assigned
What you’ll bring
- High school diploma
- Strong commitment to safety and promotion of a safety culture
- At least 2 years in underground mining experience preferred
- Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and presentations to peers from other mine disciplines and senior management
- Ability to solve and communicate technical problems with practical solutions
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and Vulcan or similar 3D modelling software
- Post-secondary education in a technical discipline
