Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Underwrites individual insurance applications to cover property and casualty with guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis.
- Determines whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of the property's value, location, usage, and safety features, and other information pertinent to the decision.
- Has frequent contact with field to gather information on which to base and defend underwriting decisions.
- Does not have any assigned Production goals.
Additional Considerations:
As a Group Fund Underwriter, you are responsible for managing the workers' compensation premium renewal underwriting for 7 self-insured group (SIG) funds, representing over 2,200 members, $2.6 billion in payroll and $63 million in annual billed premium. New business underwriting includes managing incoming submissions and may include in person meetings and presentations at sales producer and prospect locations. Excess carrier underwriting includes submitting and negotiating annual contracts for each SIG fund and involves establishing manual rates by class code, premium projections and premium credit determination. The position interacts regularly with SIG members, prospective members, sales producers, third party claim administrators, excess insurance carriers, loss control engineers, industry trade associations and state regulators. A successful candidate in this role will excel in establishing strong relationships while utilizing data to properly apply various underwriting standards. The goal of this role is to maintain underwriting profitability while generating new business and growth opportunities.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
