Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,200 individuals every day across seven campuses in Charlotte (up to 14 campuses in COVID). Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are currently recruiting a FT Facilities Maintenance Technician with maintenance experience or training. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance of facilities & equipment of Moore Place. Therefore, having passion and respect to understand that this job directly provides daily support for those served by our mission is a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintenance of Facility and equipment
• Minor repairs of Facility and equipment
• Prepare vacant apartments for new tenants
• Completing preventative maintenance routines
• Be positive support of all Roof Above programs and staff
• Be good stewards of all Roof Above property

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in staff meetings, training, and development activities as directed.
• Performs other major maintenance duties as directed by supervisor or leadership

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• At least 2-3 years of experience in similar work/role
• High school education (or equivalent) preferred; must have basic reading, writing, and math skills
• Substantial relevant experience may be substituted for education
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Must be flexible in addressing tenant concerns
• Task Oriented - Proven experience in working autonomously in the absence of others or without Supervisor’s direction.
• Team oriented - Experience working in groups and can treat others in a positive manner; must be able to communicate effectively with agency staff, facility staff and facility manager
• Customer oriented - good customer service skills
• Basic computer data entry, and mobile phone skills required for time & attendance related functions.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time and schedule requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with staffs & clients.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Requires working nontraditional hours with minimal direct supervision. Requires much physical movement, lifting, carrying, and reading instructions. Additionally, this role requires:
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• Ability to move, walk, lift, bend, stand, grasp, climb steps and unlock a door with a key
• Ability to tolerate physical contact with, use of and be in close proximity to approved cleaning chemicals and supplies.
• Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
• Daily schedule of first shift, Monday- Friday with breaks and meal periods
