What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Services Rep position at RWJBarnabas Health?
A Patient Service Representative works with practice physicians and support staff to ensure patient friendly and efficient operations. Duties include the preparation of needed information for patient visits and follow-up needs. The Patient Service Representative is also expected to assist in other activities as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides administrative support including, but not limited to, the following:
- Greets patients when they enter the clinic and gathers their information upon arrival by having them fill out forms and answers routine inquiries
- Performs basic clerical functions such as photocopying, scanning, fax, sorts and distributes mail
- Represents the clinic in a professional manner in person, in telephone conversations, and in written correspondence
- Schedules patients appointments
- Enters/verifies/updates Patient Demographics
- Collects co-pays from patients at time of appointment check-in
- Handles pre-authorizations/certifications as necessary
- Assists with correction of information required for claims resolution
- Relays information to patients regarding preparation of diagnostic tests and examinations
- Maintains forms and office supplies required for front desk activities
- Assist with filing and organization of information
- Respects and maintains privacy and dignity of patients and assures patient confidentiality at all times
Other related responsibilities:
- Prioritize and organize workload
- Mail processing
- Any other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of two years experience in a clerical role required
- Ability to work independently
- Minimum of one year experience in a medical office setting required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential
- Attention to accuracy and detail
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of staff satisfaction
- Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook is required
