General Summary And Purpose
The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) will function under the direction of a licensed independent provider (LIP) in the orthopedic urgent care and sports medicine clinics as an important member of the care team. Duties will include orthopedic related triage, rooming patients, obtain information regarding presentation/injury, assist in the application of splints/braces/casts, and counsel patients on injury prevention/treatment. The ATC will support community athletic events as requested.
Skills, Knowledge, Education And Experience
Bachelor's Degree required. Certified as an Athletic Trainer Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the state they work (Idaho or Oregon). Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS
Essential Functions
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups.
Demonstrates a basic working knowledge of intervention techniques for use with injured athletes.
Appropriately applies braces, splints, and casting material
Demonstrates working clinical knowledge of varied athletic injuries and diagnoses.
Demonstrates ability to educate, instruct, apply and monitor the facts and circumstances required to protect the athlete from injury.
Demonstrates ability to identify, through physical exam or screening processes, conditions that may pose a risk of injury, illness or disease to an athlete. Demonstrates ability to recognize/triage, evaluate and care for injuries and illness occurring during athletic events or in the practice for athletic events. Demonstrates ability to determine the level of functional capacity of an injured athlete in order to establish the extent of an injury and ability of the athlete to participate.
Demonstrates ability to gather and accurately record all information required in the assessment of athletic injuries.
Demonstrates ability to develop and implement an appropriate course of rehabilitation or reconditioning to restore athletic function or performance. Coordinates referral of an athlete to appropriate health care provider as needed.
Demonstrates ability to organize a medical care service delivery system for athletes when needed.
Demonstrates ability to develop plans to manage an athlete's medical emergencies
Demonstrates ability to provide athletic training guidance to athletes for the purpose of facilitating recovery, function and performance of the athlete. Demonstrates ability to efficiently and effectively apply splints, braces, and/or casts.
