SUMMARY OF JOB:
The Personal Care Assistant/Medication Technician is responsible for providing basic nursing care and non-professional services, as well as provided medication administration services to residents under the immediate supervision of the nurse in charge.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer scheduled medications per physician’s orders and document in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as appropriate.
- Give basic nursing care, including bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, nail care, skin care and shaving.
- Assist residents with dressing/undressing as necessary.
- Make beds and change linens as needed; make sure bed is in a correct and comfortable position.
- Deliver meals and between meal nourishments, assist with feeding as necessary, and record meal consumption as necessary.
- Monitor and record bowel and bladder function and assist residents as necessary.
- Maintain intake and output records as instructed.
- Assist residents to walk with/without assistive devices and moving to and from beds or chairs/wheelchairs.
- Take temperatures, pulses, respirations, and blood pressures as directed and record as instructed.
- Report any changes in resident’s condition to the nurse in charge.
- Answer call lights and respond to resident’s request in an appropriate manner.
- Weigh and measure residents as instructed.
- Assist with the care of the dying resident and provide post-mortem care as instructed.
- Check residents routinely to assure that their personal care needs are being met.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the nurse in charge.
- Collect lab specimens as directed by the nurse in charge.
- Escort or transport residents from one area to another within the facility for activities, therapies or other appointments.
- Assist in admission, discharge and transfer of residents.
- Maintain the cleanliness of all areas on the nursing unit and the resident’s room.
- Assist with resident’s personal laundry as needed.
- Notify the nurse in charge of any resident leaving/missing from the floor.
- Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the nurse in charge immediately.
- Follow established isolation precautions and procedures.
- Participate in facility education programs, staff meetings, in-service education and committee meetings as assigned.
- Adheres to the Organizations Policies and Procedures regarding the Compliance Program of the organization and is timely in reporting any possible concerns.
- Follows all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to their position.
- Adheres to the Organization’s Policies and Procedures covering Privacy and Security in Compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Employee has completed annual compliance training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the code of conduct in the performance of their duties.
- Employee abides by the organization’s code of conduct in the performance of their duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Convent Community Nurse, or the nurse in charge, as needed.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year experience in long term care/assisted living/home health care
- Successful completion of Medication Technician training and periodic competency testing
