Job description
We are looking for a Spiritual Pastoral Care Team Member to provide spiritual and emotional support for residents, their families and staff within particular communities at Saint Joseph Villa.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Possess the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and attend all resident care conferences as appropriate
-Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills
-Possess knowledge of or is willing to learn Catholic ethics, especially, the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services
-Strive to consistently deliver compassionate and professional care through his/her ministry on the Spiritual/Pastoral Care team
-Assist coworkers, as assigned, when unusual work circumstances or emergencies occur
-Willing to adapt to changing priorities and needs within the department
-Respond to the spiritual and emotional needs of residents, families and staff with compassionate care and professionalism
-Meet on a regular basis with the Spiritual/Pastoral Care team for mutual sharing, planning, support, and professional development as designed by the Director
- Visits newly admitted residents within three days of admission and completes a spiritual assessment in Point Click Care
- Provides follow-up visits based on needs identified on the spiritual assessment; periodically reviews assessment and spiritual activities for the resident
-Assists residents in psychological, emotional, or spiritual distress, as needed, by developing a spiritual care plan with appropriate resources
- Attends Care Conferences in specific areas of responsibility with the interdisciplinary team and attends to the question of how spiritual needs are being met.
-Collaborates with the Palliative Care team in consultations about a resident’s care and treatment.
-Offers bereavement services to the dying resident and their loved ones
-Completes appropriate resident documentation on Point Click Care
-Determines daily priority of pastoral visitation needs in consultation with the community team members
-Notifies appropriate person(s) on a status change of a resident in collaboration with the nursing staff.
-Notifies the Area Delegate on a death in a Sister’s family
-Assists residents in coping with the psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects of diminishment and illness
-Available to assist other members of the Spiritual/Pastoral Care Team and the family of lay residents who are preparing a funeral for their loved one
-Plans and carries out all of the details of a Sister’s funeral from the time of death to burial
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
-One to two years’ experience in Pastoral ministry, i.e. visiting the sick in parishes or in a health-care related setting
-Ability to relate/communicate with residents
-Ability to exhibit understanding, compassion, and sensitivity toward all residents/families
- Ability to exhibit judgment and sense of responsibility
-Ability to possess understanding of social, psychological and spiritual needs of the residents
-Good communication skills
-Competent with computer skills
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Holds a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Care, Spirituality or similar discipline preferred.
-Experience in spiritual/pastoral ministry preferred
-Willing to engage in on-going education in this ministry
-CPE recommended
Full-time hours, varying shifts 8-5 or 12-8.
