Social Work Generalist Internship

This Social Work Generalist Internship offers you the opportunity to gain broad exposure to the diverse range of services offered by Sample Supports, including behavioral health, supported living, community access, employment, and youth and family support. Interns will play a supportive role in empowering individuals with disabilities and mental health diagnoses, while learning the core functions of case management, advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This internship is ideal for bachelor’s or master’s level students in a social work or human services program looking to develop strong foundational skills across multiple service types.

What you will learn:

• The structure and requirements of Colorado’s IDD and behavioral health systems
• Fundamentals of case documentation and individualized service planning
• How to coordinate across multiple departments and programs
• Client-centered planning and advocacy practices
• Skills related to direct service support, employment coaching, and behavior plans 
• Techniques for managing schedules, data entry, and internal communication
• How social work principles are applied in disability services and behavioral care

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with case coordination across behavioral, residential, and employment services
• Participate in care team meetings and interdisciplinary communication
• Document daily interactions and service provision in compliance with policy
• Research and compile local community resources
• Promote person-centered values and support client independence
• Observe and assist with service delivery and behavioral supports
• Complete weekly supervision and learning reflection with assigned supervisor
• Maintain professional communication and adhere to confidentiality standards
• Serve as a mandatory reporter for any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation

Qualifications

• Current student in BSW, MSW, or related human services program
• Interest in working with people with disabilities or mental health needs
• Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
• Dependable, flexible, and collaborative
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and multi-program environment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics

Working Conditions

• Possible hybrid schedule
• Requires ability to attend occasional program or team meetings
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Must have reliable transportation if participating in field-based services
