What are the responsibilities and job description for the Indirect Lending Underwriter I position at Scott Credit Union?

Scott Credit Union is looking to hire a full-time Indirect Lending Underwriter I to join our amazing Consumer Lending team. This position works Monday thru Friday with rotating Saturdays. The position will require new employees to be in the office 5 days a week for the first 90 days before moving to a hybrid/remote schedule.

The Day to Day as the Indirect Lending Underwriter I

Responsible for underwriting a high volume of loans while exercising sound judgement in the extension of credit. Examines, evaluates, and decisions borrower's applications for indirect loan requests, within lending authority, in accordance with sound underwriting practices as set out in policies and procedures, and using sound underwriting knowledge obtained through training and lending experiences. Works with indirect dealership staff to assist with indirect loan application questions and issues. A typical day will look like:

  • Review applications for accuracy and completeness and will review indirect loan applications that may warrant additional consideration and possible second review. Must be able to evaluate instances where exceptions are in the best interest of the credit union and make recommendations for exceptions to the Vice President of Consumer Lending
  • Analyzes, evaluates and approves indirect consumer loan applications, including but not limited to auto loans, RV loans, motorsports and boat loans in accordance with industry and business unit standards.
  • Request additional information from dealer as needed to determine loan risk and to make sound and prudent loan decisions
  • Assists in analyzing and monitoring lending reports to maintain adequate credit quality and portfolio performance.
  • Meets or exceeds agreed upon targets for volume, applications decisioned, charge off and delinquency ratio and other credit union metrics
  • Correspond with indirect dealership staff to resolve questions regarding consumer loan application information.
  • Handle communications from indirect dealership representatives when they call to negotiate or dispute an underwriting decision.
  • Perform such other duties and responsibilities as management may from time to time assign.

To Be Considered, You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of loan underwriting experience or loan processing experience. Experience working with loan regulations.
  • Personal computer experience to include Microsoft Excel and Word.
