Salary Range


$15.15 - $21.98 /per hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary position not eligible for benefits.

Work Schedule


Shifts are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays during the regular school semesters and will be shared between two employees.

Two scheduling options below will provide the required coverage while offering flexibility for staffing.

OPTION 1: Weekly Schedule:
Each employee works one 7-hour shift per week, for a total of 14 hours of coverage each week.

OPTION 2: Biweekly Rotation:
Employees alternate working two consecutive 7-hour shifts every other week, totaling 14 hours per pay period for each employee.

Fall and Spring school semesters last 17 weeks.

Job Summary


The Scottsdale Community College Art Department seeks two qualified individuals to support the daily operations and ongoing maintenance of the digital lab and photographic darkrooms. These positions provide essential technical, instructional, and operational support for students and faculty, ensuring a safe, organized, and productive learning environment across both digital and analog photography facilities.

Both roles require strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to assist students with photographic equipment, darkroom procedures, and digital processes.

This role requires the ability to distinguish color, contrast, and tonal differences.

These positions will begin a week after hiring.

To best serve students, the department, and the college, this position requires an on-campus presence.

Essential Functions


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare chemistry and equipment for photographic labs; replenish, mix, and break down chemistry as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized lab, studio, and classroom spaces.
  • Direct and monitor students to ensure safe and effective use of equipment and materials.
  • Provide assistance, demonstrations, and technical consultation to students regarding photographic equipment, darkroom workflows, and digital processes.
  • Oversee equipment check-out and return procedures; document and report technical issues or needed repairs.
  • Collaborate with instructors, staff, and students to support learning and student success.
  • Offer guidance to other lab aides when needed.
  • Support event-related workshops by providing technical and operational assistance.
  • Supervise use of computers, scanners, and printers during open lab hours.
  • Set up and maintain printers (e.g., nozzle checks, print-head cleanings).
  • Ensure students sign in and adhere to proper lab etiquette and equipment protocols.
  • Clean and organize workstations; power down printers and return tools at the end of lab hours.
  • Monitor use of specialized equipment such as Epson film scanners and large-format printers.
  • Assist faculty with inventory of supplies, paper, and inks; track equipment repairs or replacements.
  • Help organize work and storage spaces and prepare items for salvage pick-up.
  • Set up the darkroom for open lab hours (mix chemistry, fill trays, prepare tongs, trays, lights, washers, compressors, etc.).
  • Supervise darkroom, classroom, and studio spaces during open lab hours; ensure students sign in and follow proper use and safety guidelines.
  • Clean and organize trays, drawers, safelights, and work areas; dispose of used chemistry following safety and silver-recovery procedures.
  • Monitor use of specialized equipment such as studio lighting kits, backdrops, dry-mount presses, mat cutters, and large-format enlargers.
  • Conduct minor equipment maintenance (e.g., replacing enlarger and studio bulbs).
  • Monitor inventory and note supply or equipment needs for faculty review.
  • Assist with organizing storage spaces and preparing items for salvage collection.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications


Associate degree or higher in a related field

Ability to work in person on scheduled days with dependable, timely attendance

Ability to build positive rapport with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff

Working knowledge of photographic systems, equipment, and processes (digital and/or analog)

Ability to visually assess the work environment for safety concerns

Experience handling or preparing photographic chemistry

Customer service experience

Special Working Conditions


Exposure to photographic chemicals, fumes, and particulates.

Must follow all required safety protocols for chemical handling and lab operation.

May be required to lift 50 pounds.

This role requires the ability to distinguish color, contrast, and tonal differences.
