Loss Control Consultant needed for an Insurance Agency in Schaumburg, IL

Hybrid Remote!


-An Insurance background is not required, but a background in Safety is! (example: OSHA background)

-Must be willing and able to obtain a Property and Casualty ASAP, if hired! (will be paid for by the agency)

-Will need to be a growth-oriented person who likes to continue to increase their knowledge and get more certifications!


  • HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm OR 9:00 am – 5:30 pm
  • DURATION: Direct Hire
  • WORKSITE: Mostly work from home OR travel to client sites, with occasional requests to meet at the office (may not have set days/times to do so).
  • Will need to be open to and good with travel as needed – will need to go out on loss contol inspections.
  • Driving a vehicle and traveling by airplane are requirements for this position.
  • PAY: $85,000 - $115,000/year depending on experience.

Job Duties can include, but are not limited to:

The Loss Control Consultant implements the company’s comprehensive insurance loss control program, assessing, identifying, developing, and implementing loss control strategies on a continuous basis.

The Loss Control Consultant is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and evaluating potential risks that may impact the insured’s financial stability, including insurable and non-insurable risks, developing and implementing loss control strategies to minimize each company’s exposure to these risks.

The Loss Control Consultant will work closely with the Business Development team and the Property & Casualty servicing team as an integral part of the client service strategy, thereby contributing to the retention of profitable business.

• Proactive development of client risk management strategy, which will often require site visits.

• Analyzes claims and losses to identify patterns and trends and develop strategies to prevent future losses.

• Develops and executes strategic plans resulting in continued growth and client retention.

• Strengthens partnerships with existing clients through consistent service delivery, strong personal relationships and innovative service offerings.

• Collaborates with other departments to develop and implement risk mitigation plans and provides reports and presentations to the Property & Casualty department on risk exposure and mitigating strategies.

• Oversees the Quality Control process to deliver excellent quality and achieve effective and efficient use of resources.

Researches, assesses, and develops a personalized plan of action based on site surveys of physical properties, fleets, industrial operations, and products/services provided.

• Identifies and conducts analysis of claims, historical losses and loss trend analysis data to identify and target high risk exposures.

• Conducts risk assessment, identifies and evaluates potential risks that may impact the insureds’ operations.

• Develops and communicates recommended processes, written procedures, and policy changes to reduce risks and control related hazards, behaviors, and loss exposures.

• Accountable for providing effective and timely communications and required documentation as needed, to servicing team and management.

• Acts as a risk and safety consultative resource for company leadership and Account Executives/Managers and policyholders by providing superior value-added customer service.

• Reviews insurance policies and coverages to ensure that the company and insureds are adequately protected.

• Analyzes insureds’ existing insurance coverage and identify any gaps in coverage.

• Recommend appropriate insurance products and loss control strategies to mitigate risks.

• Mentor and coach others by providing guidance and encouragement.

• Develops and assists with implementation of loss control strategies to minimize the company's and insureds’ exposure to these risks.

• Participates in individual and team-based agency visits focusing on the delivery of technical capability, policyholder support and brand value.

• Shares existing and newly acquired technical knowledge with policyholders, peers and business partners through training and education practices.

• Works on projects, as assigned, and participate in key business meetings; adds value to collaborative sessions on high premium, complex risks.

• Imparts strong technical and business skills across all major lines of coverage with peers, business partners, and external customers.

• Keeps abreast of industry and technical news and developments and shares the knowledge gained with peers, business partners, policyholders, and agents.

• Mentor and train other loss control consultants as needed.

• Identifies, plans and develops methods and procedures to obtain greater efficiency and effectiveness of client programs and policies as related to loss control.

• Directs the collection, analysis, reporting, communication, and distribution of KPI data to measure performance and communicate ongoing results.

• Maintains confidentiality of company and customer information per policy per client.

• Cultivates and maintains ethical and good standing vendor relationships, looking out for new products, technologies and partners.

• Performs special projects as assigned by senior management, which may include involvement in presentations, client functions and meetings.


To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

•Must be good at paperwork and adapting to new technology! Half the job is, after an in-person loss con inspections, writing reports and hopping on meetings with the P&C Account Managers and the BD team.

•Ability to travel daily between locations with frequent overnight travel.

•5 years or more safety or loss control experience, preferably in commercial insurance.

•Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, OR equivalent work experience.

•Experience managing and training junior staff preferred.

•Active Property & Casualty Insurance Agent license preferred.

•Proficient in MS Office Suite and AMS 360.

•Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Ability to work independently, make accurate decisions and demonstrate good judgement.

•Detail oriented with excellent organizational and time/project management skills.

•Visa sponsorship is not available. W2 only.

Salary : $85,000 - $110,000
