Position Description

The Facilities Technician II supports the maintenance and improvement of Seattle University facilities, grounds, and equipment to promote a clean, safe, and effective learning and working environment. This position performs a broad range of semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties and provides support for campus events, seasonal work, and emergency response needs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Facilities Maintenance and Groundskeeping:
  • Assists in maintaining campus buildings, equipment, and landscapes by completing interior and exterior inspections and addressing maintenance needs.
  • Perform tasks related to gardening, landscaping, and grounds upkeep.
  • Responds to routine and urgent maintenance work orders across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and painting.

Project And Event Support

  • Oversee classroom, office, and meeting setups in coordination with the Facilities Services Manager.
  • Assists in executing minor facility improvement projects, occasionally leading small tasks with support from Facilities Technician I staff.

Communication And Coordination

  • Maintains effective communication with faculty, staff, and students regarding maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates with external contractors and other staff to ensure project alignment and safety.

Operational Support

  • Supports broader operational and seasonal campus needs, including moving furniture and setting up event spaces.
  • Rotates on-call night and weekend coverage with Facilities team members.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness drills and responses.

Other Duties

  • Performs other related duties as assigned in support of Facilities Services objectives.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2-5 years of facilities or maintenance-related experience.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated experience in gardening, landscaping, and general maintenance.
  • General proficiency in one or more trades and familiarity with others (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC).
  • Knowledge and safe operation of power and hand tools.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment, particularly in emergencies.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or outdoor environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to work with a diverse campus community.
  • Must pass a background check.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2-5 years of facilities or maintenance-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a higher education, nonprofit, or arts-related environment.
  • Familiarity with automated building systems.
  • Strength in one or more trades with a broad understanding of general facility maintenance.

Compensation At a Glance

Salary Range: $27.14 per hour

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
