What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletic Trainer position at Shoreline Orthopaedics?
Athletic Trainers perform various office and clinical duties daily to keep our healthcare practice running efficiently. They will work efficiently and effectively while assisting a team of practitioners, collaborating with other staff members to attain optimum results, and provided needed coverage to schools that are contracted by the Shoreline Orthopaedics/Holland Hospital Sports Medicine Collaborative.
This position is for an Athletic Trainer in physician practice setting dividing time working in our Orthopaedic Urgent Care, Dari Motion Analysis, athlete care coordination and care, providing patient education and other clinic responsibilities. In addition to clinic coverage, this position also has other programmatic requirements including, but not limited to, sports medicine phone triage coverage, continuing education, training, meetings, and other fill in outreach coverage as needed for schools, clubs, and community events.
Essential Job Functions:
- The practice of athletic training includes injury/illness prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergent care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning, organization and administration, and professional responsibilities.
- Provide professional assistance and clinical support to other health care professionals to ensure the delivery of quality, evidence-based care services.
- Prepares and rooms patients, updating the electronic medical record, obtaining a thorough history, performing the initial evaluation, and presenting this information to the provider, as well as placing orders, removing, or applying splints or braces, providing rehabilitation exercises, crutch training, and educating the patient and their family on the next steps of care.
- Perform various related procedures including but not limited to wound care, dressings, removal of sutures/staples, application/removal of orthopaedic casts/splints, and drawing up injections, Botox, and assisting with ultrasound procedures.
- Following standard workflows, accurately documents all pertinent details in the electronic health record.
- Perform Dari Motion Analysis on appropriate patients. Properly interpret the data and present to patient and caregivers, as well as the physician involved in their care. Instruct on appropriate exercises that will treat the inefficiency’s found in the analysis.
- Coordinate care between student athletes, parents, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel to care for student athletes’ health conditions while exercising discretion and independent judgement both in the clinic and outreach setting.
- Determine and respond to patient needs and concerns based on the diagnosis and treatment plan provided. Provide and explain patient education materials and other documentation (excuse notes, restrictions, worker’s compensation forms, etc.) in a manner that is understandable to the patient.
- Requires travel to various schools or events as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned when needed.
Qualifications:
· Years of Experience: 5 years’ experience working as an athletic trainer. Clinical experience preferred but not
· required.
· Education: Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree Preferred. Graduate from accredited athletic training program required.
· Certification/Licenses: Must be BOC certified and possess Michigan’s Athletic Training Licensure (or eligible) in good standing. NPI number suggested. Additional Certifications Preferred but not required.
