Job Overview The Performance Improvement Specialist is responsible for assisting the Performance Improvement department by collecting, reporting, and analyzing quality data to support hospital improvement strategies and implement changes. This position supports hospital matters related to performance improvement and patient safety. Responsibilities The Performance Improvement Specialist helps to ensure that care is delivered in a safe, timely, effective, equitable and patient centered manner. The position supports the Performance Improvement (PI) department, hospital staff, leadership, and medical staff by identifying and facilitating performance/process improvement opportunities and projects. This position serves as a resource to all levels of the organization relative to PI/quality activities, conducting or providing education as requested by staff or leadership and coordinating teams as needed to drive change towards desired outcomes. The Performance Improvement Specialist conducts record review for performance improvement, peer review, patient safety, risk management and other projects. This position supports improvement efforts for potential or actual quality of care/risk issues including participation/facilitation of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), or safety event review, as needed. This position actively supports hospital regulatory and accreditation activities. This position reports to the Performance Improvement and Risk Management Manager. Qualifications Education Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Background in healthcare with medical terminology helpful but not required. Skills
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Experience in performance improvement/process improvement
  • Strong computer skills required (including strong skills in Microsoft Excel)
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission surveys and standards preferred
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) required
  • Ability to interact with staff, volunteers, patients, families, and visitors required
  • Experience in electronic medical records preferred
  • CPHQ Certification preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt or Green certification preferred
