What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1ST YEAR APPRENTICE position at Sims Crane and Equipment?
Job Summary: Operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment such as cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, forklifts, concrete pumps etc. Operating Engineers represents operators, mechanics, oilers, fuel trucks drivers, lowboy drivers, riggers, signal persons and a variety of other skilled trades. This is a three-year nationally recognized training program registered within the Florida Department of Education.
Essential Functions:
- Operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment such as cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, forklifts, concrete pumps etc.
- Operate specialty machinery to fabricate, manufacture, assemble, or move products. Maintain and monitor machine to make sure it functions properly. Understanding of how operated machine works. Conduct quality checks periodically.
- Maintain an understanding of company policies and procedures. Review company handbook periodically to ensure accurate knowledge.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and all government regulations.
- Create and nurture a positive work environment by treating others with mutual respect and concern.
Required Training:
- Four years of on-the-job training – 8,000 hours
- Classroom on the job training – 300 hours
- Hands on the job training – 300 hours

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Good customer services skills
- Good verbal communication skills
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License, specifically Class A CDL.
- Valid NCCCO Crane certification.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
Physical Requirements:

- Work is performed in a standard office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds at times.
