What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN OR position at SLOCUM ORTHOPEDICS, P?
· Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout the surgical experience
· Assist in patient education during all phases of the patient’s experience at the ASC
· Assure that proper supplies, instruments and equipment are available for procedures
· Assure that equipment is functioning properly
· Monitor use of and charge for all supplies used during a procedure. Assist with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used.
· Appropriately document patient care
· Attend continuing education offerings to remain current with orthopedic and ASC issues.
· Identify actual and potential risks to patients and others. Take action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety in the facility.
· Assist anesthesia ensuring proper supplies and drugs are on hand
· Assist anesthesia personnel with induction as necessary
· Assist with transporting patient to operating room
· Monitor for breaks in aseptic technique
· Perform surgical prep per protocol
· Perform sponge and needle counts as appropriate
· Monitor patient undergoing only local anesthesia according to policy and procedure
· Know correct emergency procedures, locations of emergency call system and emergency supplies and equipment
· Label and send specimens to pathology according to protocol
· Ensure Universal Precautions are maintained
· Assist with securing dressing, moving the patient and assisting anesthesia as needed
· Assist in transporting patient to PACU
· Make thorough report to the PACU RN to assure continuity of care
· Be available to PACU RN for assistance, as needed
· Complete nursing record and post charges before returning to operating room
· Has and maintains a current knowledge of orthopedic surgeries, plans of care, conditions, and terminology
· Other duties as assigned
