What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer position at SMC?
Job Summary: Oversee design and development of processes for new product development, sustaining and tooling while leading a cross functional internal project team.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee project conception, equipment specifications and quotations through full scope of project management until responsibility is transferred to Production
- Develop and manage programs that ensure safe practices, adhering to company safety policies while meeting customer contracts and company internal profitability expectation
- Provide effective direction and guidance (written and verbal) to the team assigned in order to meet program expectations
- Meet the needs of external and internal customers related to the program and the manufacturing team’s need for success
- Calculate cost(s) for quoting all project needs. Center point for all customer cost conversations.
- Helps grow existing accounts by fostering professional working relationships with team while supporting sales team as a technical resource during soliciting of new business.
- Create and manage project timelines.
- Engage in design and development of parts and manufacturing processes from conceptual stages through production.
- Collaborate with the Tooling Engineers who are responsible for the tooling deliverables; mold fabrication and implementation to successful production of customer’s part.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineers who are responsible for part removal and work cell layouts.
Essential Qualifications:
- B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in injection molding.
- Experience with tooling and process development from concept to implementation
- Support a team culture where all participating employees feel engaged, involved, supported, and challenged to exceed expectations
Desirable Qualifications:
- CAD knowledge helpful
ADA Requirements:
- Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
- Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly
- Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 40 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
- Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
- Travel by air or car frequently
