Position Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks. Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.). Performs general cleaning, grounds keeping, and other tasks as assigned

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Facilities Maintenance Technician is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt/hourly position. 

Travel:
Local Travel is expected for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plumbing knowledge to address leaks, clogs, or other drainage problems
  • Basic electrical wiring capabilities to manage problems with the building’s electricity
  • Carpentry ability to handle basic repairs, installation of televisions, and assembling chairs or desks as needed
  • Groundskeeping; including clean-up of trash and plant debris
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees of the building in a pleasant manner
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked
  • Physical stamina to handle a full shift of being active and working on the building
  • Performing routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example door, or wall repair
  • Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures
  • Working on damaged electrical wiring when a shortage or severed wire occurs
  • Applying preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems, such as using a sealant on a flat roof
  • Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries
  • Remove and properly dispose of recyclable materials
  • Change light bulbs, interior and exterior, as needed
  • Maintain and restock break rooms, kitchens, and common areas

 

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of working experience in facilities maintenance or similar industry
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, customer service oriented
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to push/lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as job may require
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
  • Working in high noise levels requiring hearing protection
  • Working around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning fluids, paints

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Language Skills - Ability to read and write.
  • Physical Ability - Ability to drive, use tools, climb ladders, stand for extended periods and crawl under buildings.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to handle heights.
  • Computer Skills – Ability to type and use a computer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit and stand; talk or hear; reach with hands and arms; key/type.  The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to drive a vehicle.

 

Pay Scale: 

$22-$26 Hourly
