Health Information Tech (Medical Coder)
Position Summary:
This role is responsible for processing health information records under the direction of the HIM Director or designated supervisor. Key responsibilities include coordinating physician medical record completion and conducting quantitative analysis of all medical record types in accordance with Title 22, CIHQ, Conditions of Participation, and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze medical records for completeness and compliance
- Coordinate physician chart completion and manage chart deficiency tracking
- Ensure proper categorization of forms/documents in electronic and paper medical records
- Maintain compliance with relevant regulatory standards and institutional policies
- Use standard office and HIM-specific equipment (e.g., scanners, fax machines, computers)
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of medical record experience in an acute care setting
- Knowledge of Windows software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Typing speed of at least 35 WPM
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to maintain accuracy despite interruptions and multitask effectively
- Knowledge of Title 22, CIHQ, Conditions of Participation, and Medical Staff Bylaws/Regulations
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience with HIPAA compliance
- Knowledge of physician record completion procedures
