SALARY RANGE: $28.00-$45.00 (based on experience level and work performance).

JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Non-Destructive Testing Inspector II (NDT II) inspects work of all departments to ensure that all parts, modules, assemblies, procedures and work instructions are followed. The Non-Destructive Inspector II ensures that all testing to be accomplished is IAW Work Specifications, Blue Prints, Tech Manuals, Mil-Specifications and Standard Items.

A Non-Destructive Testing Inspector Level II individual should be qualified to set up and calibrate equipment and to interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards and specifications. The NDT Level II should be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which he is qualified and should exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of trainees and NDT Level I personnel. The NDT Level II should be able to organize and report the results of NDT tests. 

• Ensure all QA inspection equipment being utilized is calibrated and is certified under the company's calibration process/programs.

• Prepares inspection reports and maintains records.
• Lead position on smaller and shorter projects under the direction of SCW&M QA III and/or QAI IV.
• Maintain your project folder and your digital folder.
• Clear tips and write IDR’s pertaining to your project. 
• Troubleshoot and resolve welding issues on your project.
• Proficient with NAVSEA Standard Items
• Perform and document(I), (V), (G), AND (Q) inspections under the direction of SCW&M NDT III.
• Review Documentation pertaining to checkpoints called out by trades and sub-contractors to assure completeness and accuracy.
• Review and maintain the Test Inspection Plan for Completeness and accuracy.
• Read and review work specifications pertaining to projects
• Research multiple drawing, technical manuals, NAVSEA standard items and other references to assure quality for every checkpoint called out by trades and sub-contractors. 
• Maintain strong professional relations with customers and subcontractors. 
• Assist with project management under direction of SCW&M NDT III, QA Supervisor or QA Manager.
• Accept/ Reject checkpoints on Navy vessels as well as in shop.
• Coordinate checkpoints with customers, trades, and sub-contractors.
• Drive yourself and assist in driving others to checkpoints or other job duties in company vehicles.
• Initiates corrective action when non-conformance and discrepancies are identified.
• Perform other duties by direction or SCW&M Supervisor or Manager.
• Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The Non-Destructive Inspector II must be able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following physical demands are representative to the position.

The position is active and requires extensive standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching. Additional demands are listed below:

• Able to climb ladders and work off scaffolding

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

• Ability to troubleshoot welding problems
• Employee must be able to evaluate the use of various resources and make knowledgeable decisions regarding safety and company standards and policies
• Able to read a tape measure and pass the written weld test (Workmanship Training)
• Ability to use the following;

1. Fillet Weld Gauges
2. Pit Depth Gauge
3. V-Wac Gauge
4. 6” Rule

• Ability to read and understand Work Specifications, Blue Prints, Standard items and Mil-Standards
• Pass NDT Level II training

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

Non-Destructive Inspector II position has no supervisory responsibilities.

POSITION TYPE / HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Schedule is Monday- Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. / 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (swing shifts dependent on work load). Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Must have a minimum of 3-4 years of ship repair experience and qualifications. 
• Must be able to speak and understand Basic English
• NDT Level II Certificate

WORK AUTHORIZATION CLEARANCE

For E-verify and contract security purposes (including ship access lists), all employees MUST present a valid export document. Acceptable documents are U.S. Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Passport, Passport Card and Permanent Resident Card.
