Position Summary:

The School Social Worker assists students with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school principals, and community based resources, the School Social Worker implements strategies that promote students' positie school adjustment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Identifies and assesses academic problems through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community.
• Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
• Determines and implements appropriate strategies to effect changes in behavioral-social interactions of students and their families.
• Provides individual and group supportive counseling to students and their families.
• Provides educational workshops to parents/guardians on identified issues related to child development, stress reduction, discipline and safety, and teacher/parent/student communication.
• Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
• Participate as a member of the IEP, IST, and other school based teams to develop interventions for promoting students’ academic success.
• Provides social work case management for students and families.
• Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
• Develops programs to address parent/guardian participation in the school and student engagement in the educational process.
• Maintains required records and submits appropriate documents for statistical reports with adherence to program standards in school social work and funding source requirements.
• Conducts home visits related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.
• Serves as liaison with community agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders.
• Locates and mobilizes community resources to support the educational program.
• Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Social Work or related field.
• Valid Pennsylvania Certification: PK-12 School Social Worker Educational Specialist OR Educational Specialist Home and School Visitor PK-12 or a confirmed pathway to certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Education or a related field of study.
• 2 years of experience as a Social Worker in a school environment.

Pre-employment Requirements:

• Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
• Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (ACT 168)
• Completion of Act 126 Mandatory Reporter Training
• School Personnel Health Record and TB test

Physical Demands:

• Ability to reach above and below the waist
• Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
• Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
• Considerable bending and twisting of the body required
• Some stooping and squatting required
• Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 25 lbs.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time of the workday

Location: Kindergarten Center

Level of Compensation: Step and Track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreement
