The Assistant Manager Regional Facilities Maintenance in Oakland, CA (OAK) plays a vital Leadership role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of Southwest Airlines’ airport facilities across multiple locations. This position oversees a wide range of operational systems—including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, jet bridges, janitorial services, lease agreements, and safety protocols—while managing a Team of skilled AMFA Technicians and supporting Corporate Facilities Project Managers. With responsibility for coordinating and completing work orders through our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), this role demands a strong grasp of various trades, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to evolving operational needs. This role delivers is an integral partner to our Airport Team, helps to solve complex problems with agility, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement. Responsibilities
Organize and evaluate work performed by vendors, contractors, and technicians
Supervise unionized workforce of technicians, administer workload, create schedules, and assign overtime
Partner with Labor Administration on matters related to the collective bargaining agreement
Ensure workshops and tools are clean, organized and inventory control is maintained
Oversee completion of all maintenance requests, monitor all preventive maintenance, and assist with repairs as needed
Monitor CMMS system, and organize work performed by technicians and contractors in cities assigned by the Regional Manager
Conduct station visits and ensure all Corporate Facilities assets and tasks in CMMS are updated, performed effectively and efficiently with the least impact on our Customers' daily operations
Perform quality control inspections of our facilities, including functionality and condition of mechanical and electrical rooms, restrooms, public areas, roofs, exterior finishes, sidewalks, hold rooms, potable water cabinets, stairwells, and parking areas
Perform janitorial audits
Assist with design and construction of all corporate facilities and their ongoing maintenance
Manage the maintenance and operation of all facilities including implementation of preventive maintenance programs for systematic inspection, service and repair efficiencies, and department personnel supervision
Communicate with station Leadership on repairs and preventative maintenance
Train and assist proper procedures and use of our CMMS
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, parking lots, grounds and/or other structures
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing Customer and personal services, including Customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of Customer satisfaction
Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
Skilled in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
Skilled in communicating in an effective and flexible manner by professionally interacting with leaders, peers, technicians, contractors, and vendors
Ability to resolve conflicts and foster a collaborative team environment Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
Construction and building repair fundamentals
Electrical and mechanical repair
Licensing/Certification
Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements
Must have a valid state driver's license
Must be able to obtain a US Passport
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Ability to raise/move/transport 100 lbs on an occasional basis (under 50%)
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Ability to work extended hours as needed, including nights and weekends, and overnight travel over 50%
Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $91,250 per year to $101,400 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
