What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Process Technician PRN position at SOVAH Health - Danville?
Performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory. Contributes to the overall operation of the laboratory by receiving, preparing, and processing patient samples prior to analysis. Handles telephone inquiries, performs computer and billing functions.
Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
Verifies proper patient and/or specimen identification, payer type, and diagnosis code before processing specimens.
Ensures that specimens are received or accessioned and labeled accurately and completely.
Distributes specimens, results, etc., to appropriate departments in a timely manner.
Notifies department supervisor of significant problems related to specimens, instruments or test orders.
Assesses sample adequacy and recognizes samples of unacceptable quality; documents and informs client of problem.
Print reports as necessary to appropriate locations, ensuring patient confidentiality.
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure continuity and appropriateness of laboratory coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Danville on all units.
