TITLE: MATTRESS ASSEMBLY/PACK OPERATOR
DEPARTMENT: MANUFACTURING
REPORTS TO: PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR
Perform a variety of tasks to safely produce quality products, meeting or exceeding productivity goals, and operating machinery correctly.
- Follow ALL safety rules & procedures at all times.
- Report any unsafe practices and conditions to supervisor.
- Ensure housekeeping and organization of work area meets standards.
- Rotate positions on the line regularly as assigned.
- Support Quality System and follow quality procedures.
- Visually inspect mattresses to ensure product conforms to quality standards.
- Set up machinery according to instructions.
- Complete assembly of foam & power mattresses to include:
Power Mattresses:
- Verify correct inflation for mattress
- Scan inflation unit into UDI system
- Insert inflation system into mattress
- Set inflation settings
- Drill holes for inflation lines, insert inflation lines, & glue inflation tubing into mattress (Specific Items Only)
Power & Foam Mattresses:
- Visually inspect mattress for defects
- Insert fire guard onto mattress
- Print & place UPC label on fire guard
- Scan UPC label on mattress cover
- Place mattress inside mattress cover
- Place ID sticker onto mattress cover
- Print & place UDI label onto mattress
- Scan UDI label
- Insert mattress into appropriate bag & seal bag according to spec
- Stack mattress from line onto a pallet (Foam Mattress Only)
- Place bagged mattress into appropriate box according to spec (Power Mattress & specific Foam Mattresses)
- Retrieve appropriate pump for the mattress & scan the pump into UDI (Power Mattress Only)
- Place pump into the box with the power mattress & seal the box (Power Mattress Only)
- Place UDI label onto the Finished Mattress bag or box
- Stack the foam mattresses 10 high onto pallet
- Stack power mattresses 8 high onto pallet
- Scan pallet into the system
- Move pallet to Shipping staging area
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Lifting up to 50lbs
- Frequent lifting & carrying objects weighing 25 lbs (Must use proper lifting technique)
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Occasional bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, overhead lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, squatting, and twisting
- Job is normally an 8-hour schedule but may be up to 12 hours during peak seasons
- Handle 250-350 mattresses per day on average
- Standing/Walking on concrete floors
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School degree or GED preferred
- Basic computer skills
- 1-year previous employment experience required; manufacturing experience preferred
- If previous employment experience is at Span-America, performance appraisal with minimal overall rating of expected for previous year and satisfactory attendance
Salary : $29,200 - $37,000
