What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at SPF America?

SPF America, LLC, located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, is currently looking for a Material Handler who has Combilift experience. The shift runs Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 am to 4:00 pm.

A Material Handler is responsible for storing, moving, and handling hazardous or non-hazardous materials. Working as a Material Handler does not require a formal education, but does entail extensive on-the-job training. Computer skills as well as safety training and fork lift training are essential for position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A Material Handler identifies, transports, packs, removes, and disposes of materials. A worker must follow safety procedures and regulations, including wearing special protective gear and disposing of materials as regulated by law. A Material Handler physically moves materials and uses heavy equipment to move materials. A materials handler takes material from one location to another and may be involved in the process of extracting and loading the material to be transported. Responsibilities include; receiving material, recording and entering data in Job Boss, distributing material to operators according to job specifications and traveler information. Operation and management of Fork lift operation and safety. Material measurement utilizing calipers and scales. Inventory monitoring and control.

Qualifications

A Material Handler does not have to have a college degree. High school diploma or the equivalent and on- the- job training are essential. Must be 18 years or older with active driver’s license. Fork lift training and certification necessary.

Mathematical skills and reasoning ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Identifies units of measure for Calipers and applies in accurate manner. Ability to problem solve involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, this individual should have knowledge of inventory software, manufacturing software and order processing systems.

Physical Demands

The physical demands are those that must be met by employee to successfully perform essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The duties of the job require the employee to stand frequently and walk. The employee may be required to sit stoop kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may need to regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
