LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time
CLASSIFICATION: ESP, Pay Band P
ANNUAL SALARY: $16.00 per hour
FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt
HOURS: 37.5 Hours per week dependent upon need within the area; some weekend & evening hours may be required; some flexing of hours & schedule may be required by College administration to meet need. May require travel to off-campus locations.

JOB SUMMARY: The Laboratory Technician provides laboratory assistance to support instruction and lab operations. This position also assists with Print Shop duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide general assistance to faculty to support lab operations and the offering of diverse laboratory experiences for students and provide in-class lab support on an as-needed basis.
- Assist with supplies and equipment inventory, processing and tracking orders as needed.
- Follow established procedures to ensure safe and secure storage of laboratory materials and disposal of hazardous materials and other related supplies in compliance with MIOSHA and other governmental safety requirements.
- Monitor need for routine maintenance, service, and ordering of first aid supplies.
- Recommend opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies related to labs.
- Provide feedback to faculty relating to trial runs of new and existing labs.
- Serve as back-up related to Print Shop work requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision received from the STEM Lab Manager.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in a science discipline (biology or chemistry) preferred. Will consider candidates in the process of obtaining an associate's degree. One year of laboratory experience is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to prepare necessary lab solutions, process purchasing information, and maintain inventories.
- Possesses knowledge and skill to set up and operate equipment and other laboratory materials.
- Attention to detail with high level of accuracy.
- High degree of computer literacy.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, reach, walk, and stand without difficulty.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with faculty and staff at all levels.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Abides by College policies and procedures.
- Ability to work in an area where noise levels are slightly above average.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
