What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Waste Management Representative position at St. Louis County?
Serve your community by applying for the full time position. You will be responsible for enforcing Saint Louis County waste ordinances, citizen complaints and issuing waste permits.
This position is normally scheduled to work Monday thru Friday but will work occasional evenings and weekends and is responsible for responding during public health emergencies.
Position will work out of the South County Government Center at 4562 Lemay Ferry Rd, St. Louis, MO 63129.
The hiring range is within the first 20% of the pay range which is $17.61 - $26.01 hourly.

Process Demolition Waste Applications for the Program.
Investigate complaints, conduct inspections to ensure compliance with Waste Code Chapter 607 and applicable State and Federal laws. Determine enforcement actions and monitor to ensure long-term compliance.
Demonstrate strong aptitude for technical writing and public speaking. Capability to work with computer databases and other record management systems to interpret and present program data or research findings using charts, tables, maps and other report methods as necessary.
Promote the principles of environmental protection through the solid waste management hierarchy.
Other duties as assigned.Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, a natural science or a related field and two years of related experience.
Possession of a valid Drivers License.
Waste Technical Certificate as issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources must be obtained within 12 months of employment.SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. Additionally, new employees will have 30 calendar days, after their first day of employment, to attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. Instructions on how to submit this attestation will be provided once employment has begun. County employees are not required to be fully vaccinated, but those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID-19 testing until they are fully vaccinated or St. Louis County geographically reaches a 70% vaccination rate and a moderate transmission level of COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
