What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cannabis Processing Manager position at Standard Wellness?

What You'll Do:

The MIP Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations in a regulated, cannabis processing lab including extraction, post-extraction products, Pre-Roll Production & Packaging, and edibles production. This includes extracting cannabis through various methods and post-extraction processing to ensure quality oil and terpene supply for the manufacturing of product. The MIP Manager may participate in product development and be responsible for supporting future product launches and methods of extraction. Regulatory compliance is an important responsibility of this role as well.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead and manage comprehensive extraction workflows—including CO₂, hydrocarbon, ethanol, and solventless methods—ensuring operational compliance, personnel accountability, and attainment of key production metrics such as yield optimization, product purity, and safety standards.
  • Supervise post-extraction workflows such as winterization, solvent removal, decarboxylation, and wiped film distillation, ensuring optimal cannabinoid retention and clarity. Manage infusion operations for edibles, guaranteeing batch consistency, accurate dosing, and compliance with product specifications.
  • Coordinate production planning to align operational capacity, staffing, and materials with forecasted demand—driving efficiency and continuous improvement in quality and cost control.
  • Manage the operation, upkeep, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment—including hydrocarbon extraction systems, pumps, evaporators, and distillation units—ensuring functionality and compliance with SOPs and industry best practices.
  • Constant communication with Leads regarding the assigned resources for the month, as well as fluid communication regarding the dissemination of goals for the month, week, and days
  • Provide guidance to Leads to fully execute their daily objectives and processes
  • Assist MIP Production Control Manager in planning, scheduling, and coordinating production activities
  • Collaborates with sales and brand management to align production planning with processing goals and expectations
  • Work with the Cultivation and Packaging Managers to establish a production plan for product(s) to be extracted & product(s) RTP (ready for packaging)
  • Daily communication with the management team on outputs, goals, adjustments, issues, and forecasting
  • Monitor production output and ensure adherence to production targets and timelines, including the enforcement of quality control protocols
  • Maintain accountability and inventory of all supplies, raw materials, finished products, by-products, and equipment by completing forms, reports, logs, and records
  • Comprehensive understanding of all tracking systems such as Metrc and Dutchie for product ID’s, compliance labels, tags, and packages etc
  • Maintain relationship and communication with third-party partners
  • Implement GMP’s and measures for compliance with quality, health, safety, and regulatory requirements for extraction, packaging, and labeling
  • Ensure all compliance regulations are met and exceeded across the entire department
  • Ensure all tasks and processes can and are being completed in a safe environment for all team members
  • Demonstrates clear and concise communication, particularly related to equipment repairs, maintenance, and departmental needs
  • Provides constant leadership and a positive attitude to all team members and peers
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies, to include conducting interviews, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, issuing incentive and disciplinary action, and addressing and resolving problems to create a culture of engagement and high-performance
  • Follow all General Agricultural Practices, General Handling Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Drives a ZERO tolerance order rejection mindset
  • Drives a ZERO tolerance housekeeping mindset
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor


What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to pass all background check and licensing requirements as set forth by state rules and regulations for licensees
  • Proven experience in a supervisory leadership role
  • Experience with inventory control systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field, or commensurate experience will be accepted
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum two (2) years’ management experience
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without an accommodation
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language


Preferred:

  • Licensed cannabis manufacturing experience preferred but not required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of proper/safe handling and disposal of chemicals, substances, and hazardous waste
  • Experience with utilization and/or implementation of METRC software, ERP systems, digital inventory systems, and data analysis tools a strong plus
  • Possess analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and strong project management skills
  • Excellent experimental design, data collection, results interpretation, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective at time management, detail-oriented, highly organized, and motivated by accomplishment
  • Results driven with a collaborative attitude and ability to work closely with other scientists/business team members
  • Possess the ability to adapt and react to continually changing conditions
  • Ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with subordinates and all levels of management within a team environment on a variety of programs and projects
