Daily pay rate $113.61

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assists the teacher/administration with upholding and enforcing School rules
  • Meets accepted standards of professional behavior, including commitment to punctuality and attendance
  • Adheres to School policies and procedures
  • Assists students in performing activities initiated by the teacher; works in small groups or one on one with students to provide specialized instructional assistance
  • Maintains a learning environment that is conducive to the student’s intellectual, social, and emotional development; considers the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for the student and mitigating factors
  • Assists in the implementation of student’s IEP and Behavior Management Plan under the direction of a special education teacher
  • Works with teacher to establish and maintain open and positive lines of communication with the teacher, students, other staff, and parents/guardians concerning academics, language, and behavior
  • Ensures safety of student, self and others by supporting and following emergency procedures, i.e. code red; fire drills
  • Serves as a role model for students, represent appropriate behavior, anger management, and problem-solving skills
  • Aids the classroom teacher in directing student behavior and activities to facilitate goal accomplishment
  • Assists with strategies for maintaining orderly classroom behavior on an individual and group basis
  • Supports setting firm classroom rules and assistance in following through with consequences providing students with frequent feedback and recognition
  • Responds calmly and objectively in situations involving students with extreme/sustained behaviors
  • Utilize appropriate techniques of behavior management and crisis interventions as indicated in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention guidelines; implements strategies to address escalating behaviors, i.e. time-out, discussion, conflict resolution
  • Supervises students during transitions to/from classroom, in hallways, and lunchroom
  • Reinforces learning with visuals, cues, and manipulatives; assists with preparing bulletin boards to enforce daily assignments
  • Adheres to no smoking and/or tobacco use policy in all School buildings, School grounds and in School vehicles
  • Operates copy, lamination and other office machines to perform clerical and non-instructional assignments as assigned
  • Attends all mandatory in-service training and regularly attends meetings at the request of the building principal
  • All other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience working with youth with special needs; however, a combination of HS diploma with 2 years of related experience will be considered. Experience with emotionally disturbed and/or learning disabled students preferred
  • Complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training and utilize skills in a School environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of primary curriculum, resources and classroom management
  • Maintain discipline and control disruptive behavior
  • Operate a computer to perform work
  • Maintain records and prepare reports
  • Valid driver license preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, occasional lifting and/or moving more than 25 pounds
  • Most work is indoors except when supervising students on field trips or outdoors on School grounds
  • Physical activity requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items
  • Moderate physical activity with the ability to initiate or participate in physical interventions when necessary
