TAJF grants funds to assist nonprofit organizations in providing free legal assistance to low-income Texans who desperately need help. This position performs a variety of accounting functions; including banking, accounts payable and accounts receivable-related transaction processing; manages the loan assistance program; and performs entry-level financial review work.PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:Performs a variety of accounting functions:enters invoices, vendor A/Pprocesses payments,maintains vendor master list,enters cash receipt and bank deposits, andprepares related reports.Work involves maintaining, preparing, posting, and balancing accounting statements, records, documents, and reports.Performs entry-level financial examination work by assisting with fiscal desk reviews:examines grantees’ audits and documents any findingsanalyzes grantees’ operations, internal controls, and systems for reliability, adequacy, and compliance with grant regulationsreconciles grantees’ accounting records and their quarterly expenditure reports to ensures reliability, adequacy, accuracy, and compliance with grant regulations, andreports erroneous or questionable transactions.Creates statistical, financial and other informational reports for Director of Finance, while maintaining confidentiality. Responsible for student loan assistance program application and award process: Reviews applications for the Texas SLRAP and makes awards in strict adherence to TAJF-Board established criteria, and creates and distributes award documents.reviews quarterly attorney applications for accuracy, completeness, and determination of grant amount, andexamines quarterly certifications and ensures accuracy of quarterly payments.Tracks ongoing eligibility and adjusts TAJF SLRAP records, accordingly. Assists with fund distributions to grantees.Assists with monthly bank reconciliations.Performs other responsibilities as required.POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Two years’ experience in a professional environment that requires basic knowledge of accounting principles.Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is desirable but not required; major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products required, particularly Excel; experience with Accounting Software, double entry accounting and reconciliations. Experience with MS Dynamics GreatPlains accounting software preferred.Knowledge of accounting processes required; experience in nonprofit accounting and grant accounting/compliance preferred.Attention to detail and accuracy; problem solving skills; time management skills.Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.HOW TO APPLY:https://careers-texasbar.icims.com
