Responsibilities
Leah B. Guilbeau & Associates, staff counsel for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, is seeking a Paralegal to join their growing team in Lafayette, Louisiana. Candidates must be detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to prioritize workload, and have the ability to multi-task in a fast pace electronic environment. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting attorneys with conducting client discovery meetings, drafting written discovery objections and responses, drafting reports, drafting medical summaries/chronologies, and trial assistance.
• Uses knowledge gained through extensive experience, paralegal degree and/or bachelor degree to assist attorneys with file handling.
• Uses education, experience, and thorough understanding of litigation process to assist attorneys in discovery, pre-trial matters and/or trial preparation to proactively move assigned files to conclusion.
• Uses understanding and experience with medical records and terminology to proactively identify new areas of discovery.
• Uses automation skills proactively to increase productivity and efficiency in management of cases to assist attorneys in trial preparation and/or presentation.
• Uses legal research and writing skills to draft complex motions and pleadings.
• Assists in trial preparation.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a paralegal in an insurance defense firm preferred.
Strong organizational skills are required in this fast paced work environment.
Working knowledge/experience utilizing the Louisiana Rules of Civil Procedures.
Working experience in answering discovery and drafting medical summaries/chronologies.
Strong software/technical skills including experience working in a case management system.
Experience working in an electronic/digital environment.
Additional Information:
Maintains paralegal competency by participation in continuing education programs
Must successfully complete orientation and training program as designated by the Managing Attorney or the Law Department
Travels via commercial transportation or driving to job related activities
May work irregular hours because of workload and nature of the work
