Is strategizing, creating and guiding a large organization’s culture your passion? The Arizona Department of Transportation is looking for a leader to manage our Employee Engagement and Recognition team. The perfect candidate would be an energetic, creative, detail-oriented professional, to join the award-winning ADOT Communications and Public Involvement team. This position will manage four team members to create in-person and virtual employee events, oversee programs including new employee orientation, first year experience, employee engagement surveys, mentoring, as well as agency awards and recognition. The ideal candidate also will have a strong communications background, assisting with content creation and writing. This position reports to the Assistant Communications Director for Internal Communications and serves as backup.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

- Manage staff: Performance reviews, work assignments, leave requests, discipline & professional development; implement employee engagement
programs, mentoring, new employee orientation, first year experience & annual employee engagement survey. Sets annual goals with staff members & for programs, assesses effectiveness by using analytical skills, data tracking tools, problem solving methods & 1:1 Coaching sessions. -
Responsible for the agency's awards/ statewide recognition programs, employee awards, director awards, leadership meetings, recognition & employee engagement events.

Meets with the Internal Communications team, collaborates in communicating messages to employees on the employee engagement/recognitionprograms. Knows Associated Press (AP) Style Guide.
Knowledge in:
Being a manager and overseeing personnel including work assignments, performance reviews, mentoring and discipline.
Program planning, including employee engagement and recognition programs.
Planning and managing in-person and virtual events.
Communication techniques that attract employee support for employee engagement and recognition programs.
Strategic planning that aligns programs with the agency’s strategic plan.
English language usage, grammar and punctuation to the Association Press (AP) style.
Familiarity with state procurement statutes.
Writing for internal audiences.
Skill in:
Specialized interpersonal skills to listen to and work with agency stakeholders.
Oral, visual and written communication to be utilized extensively with internal stakeholders.
Verbal, written and visual presentations that communicate the agency’s programs and objectives.
Dealing diplomatically with a wide variety of employee stakeholders.
Collaboration and team building experiences.
Ability in:
Develop innovative and creative employee engagement and recognition programs that improve the employee experience and culture at ADOT.
Effective use of analytical skills, data tracking tools, problem solving methods and coaching sessions to set annual goals with team members and for programs.
Research and resolve issues raised by key stakeholders.
Present information to an internal audience through verbal, written and visual communications.
Work collaboratively with a team-oriented, free-flowing organizational structure.
Adapt to diverse needs and scheduling changes.
Travel within the state of Arizona for in-person events.
Position requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or more in Public Administration, Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources or a closely related field and at least two years’ experience in supervising and managing staff.
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
