The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Land & Natural Resources, Forestry & Wildlife Division and is for Temporary employment.

Salary: $4,012 per month (SR-18)

Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months.  Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions.  You may also enjoy other rights and benefits afforded to an employee in a permanent position with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.

A reasonable accommodation will be provided if requested by a candidate and it is determined through an interactive process that pregnancy, a qualifying disability, or a sincerely held religious belief prevents the candidate from receiving a COVID-19 vaccination.The objective of the State's Natural Area Reserves Management program is to preserve the State's unique and representative samples of natural ecosystems and geologic formations.  The reserves encompass such diverse ecosystems as bogs, grasslands, marine coastal reefs, forests, lava flows, coastal dunes and snowy ice age terrain.  Positions in the series are responsible for the development and implementation of operational management plans which involve a variety of activities to prevent disruption of pristine areas or the degradation of sites from plant, animal, and human intrusion and to recover critically imperiled areas and selected native species.

NRMS II: This is the advanced trainee level.  Assignments characteristically involve assisting in natural area management projects for which a higher-level specialist has overall responsibility. Duties include but are not limited to: Directing a work crew and/or volunteer group in performing work in various management activities; makes recommendations of fence alignments with supervisor and lays out fence lines according to re-discussed specifications; accompanying higher-level specialist in the conduct of field surveys to learn identification, physiology, phenology and ecology of plants and animals found in Hawaii; plans plant and wildlife census projects as directed; Evaluates and documents results of management activities for review by a higher-level specialist; provides general information on program goals, policies and procedures to the public via telephone or in person; accompanies higher-level specialist to schools and community meetings in making presentations on native wildlife and plant protection. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in one of the following:
A. Natural resources management, forestry, wildlife management, or other related resource management majors;
B. Botany, zoology, wildlife biology, entomology, or other related natural resource science majors;
C. Environmental studies with an area of concentration related to natural resource management.

NRMS II: None Required

Special Requirement - Lautenberg: These vacancies require the handling of firearms and ammunition. Applicants must meet all Federal and State regulations pertaining to the carrying, use and possession of firearms and ammunition. Under the requirements of the Federal Gun Control Act, applicants may not possess a conviction of domestic violence.

Physical Ability (Lift and Carry): This position requires the ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and 100 lbs assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).

Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
