Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Geological Survey, Geological Survey Program, and will be located at 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO 65401

As a Geologist in the Subsurface Investigations and Waste Management Unit, you will work and collaborate as part of a team with internal and external stakeholders to provide technical guidance for hazardous waste site investigation and remediation. As part of the team, you will support the core values of the Geological Survey Program which include Technical Competency, Service, Professionalism, Ingenuity, and Cooperation, as well as, help protect and manage Missouri’s natural resources.
What you’ll do:
- Review and comment on technical hydrogeologic reports and investigations.
- Coordinate and communicate with internal partners to provide technical support and project guidance.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of federal and state statutes and regulations with regard to the management of hazardous waste sites in Missouri and US EPA Region 7.
- Utilize ArcGIS and other computer-aided hydrogeologic modeling programs to develop site maps and figures, and perform groundwater modeling of hazardous waste sites.
- Develop an understanding of project management, including budgeting of time and fiscal resources.
- Conduct and observe field drilling, logging, and soil and groundwater sampling activities.
- Respond to inquiries regarding hazardous waste sites in Missouri.
- Attend professional and technical development trainings.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in geology or closely related field that includes 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in geology.
- And 0-4 years of experience in geologic logging of boreholesis, groundwater and soil sampling, well drilling techniques, ArcGIS, groundwater and contaminant plume modeling and project management and budgeting.
- Experience helpful but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Missouri Registered Geologist.
- Must have a valid Missouri Driver’s License.
- Must be able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, with some overnight travel required.
- Familiarity with federal CERCLA and State of Missouri hazardous waste regulations and statutes.
- Good writing skills and verbal communication.
